Notes On A Scorecard

TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte discusses the hot topics around the Horned Frogs

BE SAFE

The inclement weather forced our campus to close yesterday and today. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you in trying to reach any of our offices. Please be safe and exercise caution if hitting the roads. Our sold-out Signing Day reception is still on as scheduled for tonight at 5 p.m. Please keep your personal safety in mind when considering whether to attempt to make it for tonight's event.

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY

We'll be providing a live stream on www.GoFrogs.com of Gary Patterson's 2 p.m. news conference today in which our 2011 football recruiting class will be announced. Make sure to visit our Web site and its Signing Day Central page as we also keep you updated on the new additions to our soccer and track and field programs.

FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Thanks to the unbelievable work of associate athletics director Jack Hesselbrock, our 2011 football schedule is basically done. Once we have all the signed contracts, we'll be ready to make the announcement. Jack does so much behind the scenes for our department, including the football schedule. Putting together a non-conference schedule each year, with all the variables involved, is an incredible and very difficult task, and Jack has mastered that skill through his many years of service and contacts nationwide. He might have faced his most-difficult challenge this year. A special tip of the cap goes to Jack.

COMING SOON

Watch for a March mailing with donor parking and football seating information for the 2011 season. There will also be a pre-sale of 2012 club seats. We still have four suites available for purchase on the west side of Amon G. Carter Stadium. For more information, please contact associate athletics director Davis Babb at d.babb@tcu.edu or (817) 257-5658.

STEELER CENTRAL

We have welcomed the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers to campus this week. Their practices are closed to the public and, per the NFL, there's extra security around the athletics facilities. We're sorry there's not a great public access to our distinguished guests. Having the Steelers at TCU is great exposure for our university and a compliment to our facilities being equipped to host an NFL team.

THE WORLDWIDE LEADER

With ESPN utilizing Sundance Square and downtown Fort Worth as its headquarters, we've received tremendous visibility this week. On Monday's Mike and Mike in the Morning, our band and spirit groups braved the cold and early hour to become a big part of the show. They arrived at 4 a.m. and were present from 5 to 7 a.m. to lend support to Mayor Mike Moncrief, his wife Rosie and Ed Bass who were in attendance. Gary Patterson will be featured in ESPN programming later in the week.

HONORING THE PAST

We'll be honoring a very historic women's basketball team at Saturday's 2 p.m. home contest with San Diego State. This season is the 10th anniversary of our 2000-01 WAC championship team becoming the first squad in our women's basketball history to reach the NCAA Tournament. It also started a nice run that has seen us make the NCAA Tourney nine of the last 10 seasons.

GET INTO THE PINK ZONE

Prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. women's basketball game, there will be a WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Pink Zone pre-game luncheon in the Schollmaier Basketball Complex. Tickets are $15 and include a ticket to the game, access to the luncheon, t-shirt and donation to Susan G. Komen of Tarrant County. Registration begins at noon. The event is open to the public. Season-ticket holders can purchase luncheon tickets for $12.

ON THE HOME DOCKET

in addition to women's basketball this weekend, our fifth-ranked equestrian program has a marquee match-up with No. 8 Baylor Friday at 6 p.m. at the Fort Worth Stock Show. We also have our final home swimming and diving meet Friday night at 6 versus Centenary.

SHOPPING TIPS

Mini-helmets of the helmet we wore in the Rose Bowl, featuring the Frog with the rose in its mouth, and 2010 football season commemorative DVDs are the latest hot sellers on our on-line store (http://shop.gofrogs.com). The on-line store also has a DVD of the Rose Bowl game broadcast.

ON TOP OF THE POLLS

There continues to be unbelievable excitement for our top-ranked baseball team. We just went over 2,200 season tickets sold, over 600 more than our record-breaking total from last year. We only have about 100 season tickets left to sell before we'll be sold out for the season allotment. Baseball season tickets will be mailed at the end of the week. The Feb. 18 season-opening series with Kansas at the newly-expanded Lupton Stadium is just around the corner.

FROM THE FROG CLUB

A few reserved parking spaces remain for the upcoming baseball season. A reserved parking pass from the TCU Frog Club assures you the same spot for every home game. Make sure to get yours today while there's still time. Just visit the Frog Club Web site at www.tcufrogclub.com.

SELLOUT NEARING

We only have a limited amount of general admission tickets remaining for the Feb. 19 home men's basketball game with BYU. Tip-off is 3:30 p.m. It will also be Fan Appreciation Day with pre-game family fun for season-ticket holders in the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility. Face painters and inflatable games are among the activities.

STREAKING

Our national championship rifle team won its 20th consecutive match with a Sunday victory at UTEP. We'll look to keep the streak growing when we return to action Super Bowl Sunday at Nebraska.

KEEP IN TOUCH

Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback.
