Gary’s problem was that he didn’t want a talented OC because it would be a threat. He may have been able to correct his crappy defense, but his insecurity married up a year with total incompetence on both sides.

We Should make a firing announcement after this game. He was set up for multiple NC runs, and he squandered it all.

I don’t think it was a threat situation - I think it was more an ego situation where he wanted the story to be about him and his defense. He wanted to win games 17-10 rather than 34-31. He wanted the glory on him.

I don’t think he ever believed anyone would take his job, he just wanted the credit.

As for Gary, I would not embarrass him by firing him before the season is over. If he wants to announce his retirement that's another thing.

I wouldn’t worry about it. If he’s more embarrassed by termination than the product he’s rolling out there all the more reason to do it.
