Gameday Thread, Season Opener: TCU at Stanford; Sponsored by Fort Worth Sports Commission

But looking back, am I the only one the thought the unsportsmanlike call on Camara was bs? Like I get it but I literally watched Travis Hunter dance like Beyonce last night 3 times with no mention of anything disruptive or unsportsmanlike. That call was sus imo
I assume the call on Camara was for a body slam because I don’t think he did anything after that would be considered taunting. The body slam was a minor one but probably legit - he picked him up a bit and put him on his back.

The call was because it looked like he tried to rip the ball out of the receiver’s hands after the play. Ref couldn’t see that his hand was stuck.

Calls like that are frustrating, because the ref threw the flag over something that he thought he saw and not actually what happened. The ref was shielded by the player and was not on the right side of the play to make an accurate call. It should have been a no call. Yet on that goaline play, we all saw the RB cross the goal line but the ref didn't see it.

We outgained them by over 200 yards and looked in control for most of the second half. The 3 Stanford TD's were a drive with 4 personal fouls, 1 very short field, and the drive extended by the Camara penalty. If we can clean that stuff up we definitely talented enough to win a lot of games. I actually saw the other Camara penalty from the other angle and changed my tune on that one as the Stanford player hooked his arm under his (this is actually quite dangerous). The two positions I was worried about the most looked okay last OL and CB. The good news is the things we need to improve on are things we can improve.

I think you’re right, but that was a really bad time for that switch. First drive of the second half and we’re behind, and they sub him in the middle of the drive?

I’ve never seen anything like that before.

The TCU radio crew said it was a pre-planned move. According to them, the coaching staff has a handful of plays that they want HH to master and that they would be inserting him into the game to execute them. It would seem that it's something they've practiced the past few weeks. Strategically, what's the difference between executing those plays in the midst of a drive vs the beginning? I don't think it makes much of a difference other than a bigger surprise factor in the midst of a drive.

Based upon the way the radio crew reacted to it, I'm sure this was clearly communicated to the QBs and offense as a whole. I doubt anybody on the team is questioning the decision.

I saw the innocuous pulling out his own hand, but appears Dykes was scolding Camara for that penalty, he did something wrong to get the scolding, so I am sticking with a body slam penalty unless you have evidence otherwise.

I truly never thought TCU would lose the game. Having said that, they must be better and smarter. Lots of things to coach this week and an extra day to do it

The penalty was not for a body slam. The official didn't throw the flag until he ripped out his hand. I thought it was a dumb penalty too until I saw the other angle. I am sure Dykes probably didn't have a good view of what happened either because it was the endzone cam that showed the Stanford player hook and holding his arm.
