FWST: Carder's injury could hamper TCU's defense

GP hasn't been the kind of coach that throws out a lot of exaggerated BS to the media with some ulterior motive. He has always been very honest in his assessments. I think he is seriously concerned about the positions mentioned, but I do think they will be worked out.

So you're buying into his comment that right now we're a 6-6 team? We return an absolutely LOADED offense but somehow we're going to lose 6 games? Have you seen our schedule? You do realize that means at least three losses to teams like AFA, UNLV, CSU, UNM, Baylor, SMU, Wyoming, SDSU, and Tennessee Tech.

Patterson always exaggerates how bad things are for us (we're a 6-6 team right now), or how good an opposing team we're playing is (Baylor is a stretch game).

It's pretty standard coach-speak, and LAPCOYHCGP is guilty of it just like everyone else.

It's all part of keeping his players in check, not letting them get too full of themselves, make them feel like they have to improve, not rest on their laurels, etc, etc...

Besides Kenny Cain, who else is there to fill in at LB?

How college ready is Marcus Mallet and / or Blake Roberts? It doesn't fill me with confidence having a true freshmen at LB, but looking at the depth chart....

Carder's shoulder must be a wreck, as even bad dislocations usually only take a couple of months to fully recover.

Is Isadore long gone? Or is there a chance he may be back? Did MagicJack's source at Chipotle come through again with the accurate information?

There is obviously some worries and frustration on the part of CGP in his statements. 6-6 is hyperbole, but the bar has been raised and expectations for this team next season are extremely high. A poor ending to last season didn't seem to shake many of the players and that certainly hasn't helped and not everyone appears to be in-sync with what is happening.

Long wat to go but not sure there is enough progress.

It's the defense he's worried about. It's unlikely, but 6-6 isn't absolutely impossible. 2004 wasn't that long ago.

If TCU goes 6-6 next year, then GP will nail this team to the cross. I don't see GP letting that happen. He will get their attention, this I have no doubts about. Whether TCU goes 12-0 or 9-3 in the regular season, will depend on health and if the team gets more breaks go their way than not IMO.

It will be curious how the spring game plays out. You play too hard, you risk more injuries. You play too soft, you don't lite a fire.

Anybody who read this article and got real worried about next year doesn't know our head coach very well at all.

Are you kidding me? CGP doesn't play games in the media, and he doesn't bull-( I'm an uneducated idiot that uses profanity) either. If he says that the team might be 6-6 next year, he means it.

That's not true at all.

CGP exaggerates and BS's all the time, just like every other coach. If you think CGP actually thinks we might go 6-6 this year, I've got some land to sell you.

Shouldn't make or break TCU's season and it sounds like he'll be back playing by mid-season maybe. Who knows how long it will actually take to heal from a surgery like that.

But TCU has lots of athletes and someone should be able to step up and fill the hole.

The way I see it, it makes us stronger. It gives us reps to inexperienced LB's who will reap the benefits of this for the next two to three years. When Tank comes back, we will have some battle tested depth at the position.

You also have to realize, our defense is going up day in and day against one HECK of an offense. Still so many question marks on the D, but the offense is a machine with so much experience at every position.

THIS will also pay dividends for our defense, they are learning a lot and struggling because they are lining up against what may be the best offensive group we have ever had at TCU.

I would be all 6-6 too if my D was measured against this O.

My experience has been that he doesn't use the media to motivate his players. When he likes the effort, he praises the team. When he doesn't like what he sees, he speaks his mind. He does, however focus almost exclusively on the defense. We were 12-1 last year with Hughes, Washington, Priest, Sanders, and Carder. If you think our defense without these players (most of which are NFL caliber players) isn't capable of being a 6-6 defense, I'm the one with the swampland to sell.

What he is probably ignoring is an offense that returns everyone important accept one tackle, that has firepower everywhere. So we probably won't loose six games next year, but we might win some 42-35 which isn't Frogball. I'm not the one saying it - Coach Patterson is.

To your first point about losing players off our defense, so we will be capable of going 6-6.....

Last year we lost 7 players off the defense, 3 of which got drafted... we still finished #1 in the nation on D. We've been the #1 defense in the nation 4 times in the last 10 years. Only 2 other schools have ever finished #1 in the nation in their school's history.

To your other point about CGP being a straight shooter and always telling it exactly like it is.....

- Do you think Baylor is a stretch game?
- Do you really think CGP thought that New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado St were tough games against some competition that were playing really good football last year, and we were gonna have to play our best football to come away with a win?

He always overstates our weaknesses and understates our strengths.

But if you would like to put some money on the Frogs going any worse than 8-4, just let me know. I'll liquidate my 401K and we can make a bet.

It's spring ball...and it sucks. It's the last thing 95% of them would like to be doing. This team will come together (if at all) over summer workouts, 7-on-7, etc.

Wake me 9/4.
