With national brand growing, TCU draws majority of students from outside Texas

It’s practically in Ben Beland’s genes to be a Razorback. His parents, both sets of grandparents, all of his great-grandparents and sister went to the University of Arkansas. His brother-in-law even played tight end for Arkansas.

Since he was 5 years old, Beland thought he would follow in his family’s footsteps. When college decision time came more than a year ago, though, Beland chose TCU.

“It’s so funny how fast purple became their favorite color,” said Beland, talking about how his parents embraced his decision to go to TCU after they visited the campus on spring break. “The second I committed to come to the school, they started buying TCU shirts, TCU stickers and a wardrobe. It went from Razorback Red to Horned Frog Purple pretty fast.”

Good article. My dentist's daughter is a freshman this year at TCU. I was surprised when he told me, but he said TCU has become a popular destination for Arizona students. They visited with three other families last year and all three girls immediately knew it was where they wanted to go. They loved not only TCU and the campus but also the city as whole. Asking what put their focus on TCU, he said it was the national championship game. I asked, even as bad as we got beat? Was not even a factor. He said how many teams ever get to play for a national title? In their mind it just made a statement about the schools dedication to excellence.

Had a convo with a guy that I just met not too long ago. Found out he was a big college football fan so we started talking it. He's a UF grad and is pretty much going insane right now. I told him that I was a Frog, and was very complimentary.

Talked about what great runs we've had over the years... Solid program... Etc. He never qualified it with "...but you got killed in the Natty"... Genuine respect from someone who follows the sport... And that's someone from within the SEC.

All that to say that those on the outside, away from the typical pissing contests that we get involved with here in Texas, can see the forest for the trees.

@SoonerFrogs - Why? TCU needs students whose parents can pay full price. What am I missing?
Edit: I would note that some of the top states are Cali, Minn, Illinois and Colo. Blue states with far lefty agendas. Their parents may want them to establish lives in a more sane environment. Just my 02.

Or maybe they want their children to get a Universal (hence Texas Christian University and not AddRan College) education and not just a BBA?

Some of the best professors I had at TCU challenged my middle class view of the world and taught me life skills.

It does not hurt a 19 year old sophomore to read Erma Bombeck.

When my daughter was there she had several California roommates, Orange County. In talking to their parents they said they didn't want their daughter going to school in CALI and being poisoned by the progressive teachings in CALI universities.

Over 6,000,000 in California voted for Trump in 2020. Fewer than 6,000,000 Texans voted for Trump. Yet he won Texas and lost California.

The insistence on making assumptions about people based on their politics, much less where they’re from, is dumb and reflects poorly on your intelligence.

I hope people from all over come to TCU, have a great time, challenge themselves and develop their own values, then go on to productive adult lives and represent TCU well wherever they go. Can’t that be enough? Do we have to make everything about political ideology?

@TCUdirtbag - Thanks for making my point. Of course there are conservative people in California and other blue states and cities. And they don't want lefty agendas forced on their children.

**ahem**

bull poo.

Most of the naive high school grads that show up at TCU will end up making up their own minds, sometimes to the extreme disappointment of parents and sometimes not so much.

100% Correct. Our experience and most of the other parents that we know from California feel the same way. There are no good options left in California.

You don't think parents don't want their kids to not be poisoned by leftist indoctrination? I'm not saying kids won't make up their own minds, but you don't think the parents don't want them as far away from insanity as they can possibly get them?
