Unless of course he was under contract and was terminated in such a fashion that he’s being paid not to work through the end of his contract. Same could be said for the situation that GP finds himself in. Smell the roses, relax, recharge and decide what’s next on your own timeline knowing you get to enjoy your compensation while doing so. Not sure any of us know the facts as to those situations.

the question does come up that if some of them are in this situation where the next year or so of income is set what do you do with your life?

If he was any good then people would be scrambling to hire him. Fact of the matter is that most of that staff lacked any value in terms of other programs wanting to employ them.
