. At any rate, I doubt Sonny will make any changes after one difficult year. We're just going Johnny Tape-fingers and Gillespie figure it out.

I think you're right. For sure, JG has at least one more year. His D is ranked 6th in the conference (considering conf games only). Also he's held opponents below their season average offensive output in six of eight conference games this season. So, pretty consistent and not stellar but hardly fireable.

KB's offense has outscored conf opponents average ppg allowed in five of eight conference games this season. And we rank 7th in the conference in offensive ppg. Again, disappointing but hardly fireable.

With all that said, I hate hate hate soft coverage in the secondary and our abysmal lack of a pass rush. I hope JG get's that worked out for next season. WRT the offense, watching our offense during the second half of the WVU game was cringe worthy.....they were bringing more than we could block and KB never adjusted.....just let Josh stand back there for WVU target practice. Horrible. Pretty much the same thing for the entire Iowa State game.

All these stats are negatively impacted a bit by the inescapable fact that the entire team took the entire K State game off.

Finally, both coordinators can correctly point out we had a bunch of new faces this year to try to fill the shoes of a bunch of seasoned NFL caliber players. Hopefully, they are in the process of growing up.

So, I'm not holding my breath in hopes of staff changes prior to next season.

Not sure what their end of the year analysis looks like as a staff but things should be broken down with a fine tooth comb and figure out if the poor play is from lack of execution, play call, or scheme.

If there tends to be more scheme and play call issues, then the answer is easy for Dykes. If it’s execution, then figure out why the players aren’t making plays when put in the correct position to make a play successful.

I know this all seems common sense and may be done weekly for all we know, I just think when you look at the season as a whole, we shouldn’t have been as bad as we were in certain games.

I doubt the staff ever meets (much less weekly) to discuss things like execution, play calls, or schemes.....you should maybe relay this advice on to Dykes, I'm sure it would be appreciated as I'm pretty sure breaking down execution, play calls and schemes is all foreign to him.

Do you really not think these guys coach? I guarantee you they are working ridiculous hours racking their brains to try and figure out how to win more games. Problem is, the other coaches are doing the same thing to try and beat us, and their players and coaches get paid too.

If we continue to go 5-7 every year, rest assured these coaches will be replaced and we'll bring in another group. But these guys are experienced football coaches, they know what they are doing. Much, much, much more than anyone on this board.

When this thought came up four weeks ago, the idea was passable, but not now. Improvement is there and with the correct personnel, could be vastly different.

Once again JG hit the low bar of not an embarrassing performance against a mediocre offense. Things would have probably looked a little different if their receivers could actually catch.

Still say that ass whipping against Kstate stands out. He still calls some of the worse plays at key moments.

Briles on face has been more successful and outside of a play or two it was much better against Baylor and 2nd half against UT was good. Very curious to see how a motivated OU does. Definitely would suck to go 5-7 after a NC and we had at least 4 games that were winnable but we choked all of them. Somehow beating OU and making a bowl game would make things a lot more palatable.

Maybe go back and read the first sentence. I said I’m not sure what their end of the year analysis looks like. Didn’t say they don’t break stuff down or meet or spend countless hours breaking things down. If there is a continuous theme happening week to week, why? Im sure they work on things to fix weekly, but that can get talked about and then get lost in the prep for the opponent.

Briles on face has been more successful

Don’t forget we had people saying that a team that is currently 4-7 were national title contenders and a FCS QB who just threw for 56 yards against Washington State was a Heisman hopeful.

Agree on the coverages, and feel the same way about the up-tempo obsession on the other side. We now have philosophies on both sides of the ball that can work but so far haven't especially well. We'll head into next year with no idea how good we will be in either side. I won't complain about how we win if we do, but at this point I have no faith in the intrinsic merits of either scheme.
