Point taken on Max not being named starter. But Max's performance has been a drastically improved with essentially the same cadre of teammates. What changed? Same can be said of every position group really. Thats the credit due to Sonny and staff.
Pretty tortured logic. Sonny was also head coach on the eve of game 1 when he chose Chad over Max. By his own admission, based on preseason performance, he had no idea whether Max would step up to the challenge or fold. Doesn't sound like Sonny and staff had much to do with that.

Max just happens to be one of those QBs that is mediocre in practice, but amps it up in game conditions. The only change this year is that he is now a well-seasoned, veteran QB. But that all happened before Sonny and staff got here.

The new offensive system and improved OL performance are a huge part of Max’s progression as a QB. Max simply maturing as a player and the game slowing down for him is also huge. It’s very similar to Boykin’s development as an upperclassman.

It’s extremely hard to be a good QB in a mediocre offensive system behind a porous OL.

I don't agree. Max was very mediocre his first THREE years here. This year he may win the Heisman trophy. Correlation: Sonny. Sonny always has a good QB. Sonny obviously has taught Max some things this year. Sonny made Max into what he is today.

And the receivers. Remember how bad our receivers were the first two years of Max's tenure? Even including Reagor our receivers could not catch. This year we have arguably the best receivers in the country.

Credit Sonny.

At the beginning of the year, Dykes chose Chad Morris as the starting QB. After Morris went down to injury, Max was Sonny's only realistic remaining choice -- and he had no idea how Max would perform.

I'm all for giving Sonny credit where credit is due, but the above is just a silly kneejerk statement with no real thought behind it.
Okay Deep, here's another silly knee jerk reaction: we're about a .500 team over the last 4 years. This year we had an undefeated regular season. What is different? SONNY AND HIS EXCELLENT STAFF. If GP was still here we'd have gone 5-7 again. Pretty silly, huh?

The change from last year to rhis year is not just seasoning. ...and my logic is not tortured. Both things can be true.

Totally agree The kid has guts and determination!!! Love his attitude and drive, just wish he was more accurate.

His numbers are really good, imagine what his numbers would be if he hit guys in the hands instead of the feet. I hope he wins the damn thing, but he's probably 4th place with a good story.

Now, win or lose the CFP or the Heisman, does he come back NEXT YEAR?!
Bump for FrogByBirth’s idiotic 4th place prediction

Pretty sure Chad's eligibility is long past.

Lol Max was pretty mediocre in games before SD got here and that’s a fact. If Sonny’s track record shows one thing it is that he can develop QBs.

This is complete BS. He was far from mediocre. Not sure what you were watching. Max suffered from a decline in defense, coaching, scheme, refusal to change and overall team leadership. It wasn't Max who was mediocre.

You’re really listing academic honors? You just copied and pasted from the media guide I assume. I’ve never seen a less useful vomit of words. The team was mediocre the last three years and so was Max’s play. You realize mediocre is C+ B- territory, right?

It’s not a huge slam to say Duggan’s play went from so-so to very good. It’s a fact. It’s a credit to him and the coaching staff that he elevated his play this year. Good grief

Edit: I will say that knowing what we know now about Max’s playing through a very painful foot injury in 2021 probably mitigates against too harsh a judgement on that year but as I’ve said, to say the play was mediocre is not all that harsh.
