My HS homeroom teacher (ND football alum) claimed the B10 wouldn't let ND in during the 1920s due to Ohio State being run by Irish catholic hating kkk members at the time but of course now they won't join due to sharing money.
Actually it goes back to comments made by Michigan coach Crisler(sp) back in the day

Whatd he say? My teacher was a pretty sarcastic guy who tried to rile people to so I took his words with a grain of salt.
Goes back way further than that, at least to 1909, when the Irish defeated the Wolverines and Michigan's Fielding Yost cancelled the following season's rematch on the grounds that ND had ineligible players.

Yost and ND's Knute Rockne did not get along. ND wanted to join the "Western Conference" and Yost led the opposition. Crisler continued the policy that kept ND off Michigan's schedule until the late '70s.

Sorry it's after midnight where I am and my computer and laptops have been off for awhile(posting this on my phone) and I'mheaded for bed, If you're that interested I suggest Google.
Google AI said they lost to em in the 1940s and then didn't schedule em for decades. Not sure if that's why they were black balled from the entire conference but maybe.

overall quality of play has gotten so bad recently. These young unproved players are making too much $$$ and coaching is getting worse. These two QBs are part of the final four teams? Smh.

Would've never thought that last year watching Duke.

Same can be said about Will Howard, although he did show flashes.
Having really good defenses with good OLs and good RBs allows a team to still be great without elite quarterback play
