Tom Herman explains why Gary Patterson's scheme is 'frustrating'

As No. 9 Texas (2-0) prepares to host TCU (0-1) at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning, Longhorns head coach Tom Herman won't be taking anything for granted. Not after needing a miraculous late-game rally to squeeze past Texas Tech in overtime out in Lubbock two days ago, and certainly not when considering the hurdles that Gary Patterson and the Horned Frogs have presented for his squad in recent years.
For the first time since he was lured away from Houston to the Forty Acres in December 2016, Herman finds himself with a 2-0 record, and with Texas an early 13-point favorite for its matchup with TCU, the Longhorns have a prime chance to hold their position as perhaps the Big 12's best shot at the College Football Playoff -- Oklahoma did no favors with an upset loss to Kansas State this past weekend -- when they take the field against their in-state foes. But even with TCU coming off a home loss to Iowa State in which the Horned Frogs displayed no shortage of vulnerabilities, it's the same coaching matchup in which Patterson holds a 2-1 edge over Herman, with TCU 6-2 against Texas since joining the Big 12 in 2012.
