DeSoto has produced 10 defensive players who have played in the NFL. An 11th player, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks with the 16th pick in the first round Thursday.
None of them ever had the kind of season in high school that DeSoto star edge rusher/linebacker Keylan Abrams enjoyed in 2023. And coming off a junior year in which he broke the school record for most sacks in a season, Abrams is now headed to TCU to play his college football.

Abrams committed to the Horned Frogs on Sunday, with his other finalist being Purdue, the school that he decommitted from in February. Abrams also held offers from Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston and Nebraska, among others.
Abrams (6-0, 195) had a school-record 23.5 sacks last season while leading DeSoto to a 15-0 record and its second straight Class 6A Division II state title. He was named The Dallas Morning News All-Area Defensive Player of the Year and had five sacks against then-defending 5A Division II state champion South Oak Cliff and six sacks against a nationally ranked Duncanville team that went on to win the 6A Division I state championship.
He had the biggest play of the season for DeSoto, stopping Southlake Carroll quarterback Graham Knowles in mid-air just inches shy of the goal line on a fourth-and-goal run from the 3-yard line in the third quarter of the state semifinal. DeSoto hung on to win 45-38 in its closest game of the season.

Abrams had six tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception and a sack in a 74-14 rout of Humble Summer Creek in the state championship game and was named the game’s defensive MVP.
Abrams, a three-star recruit, is rated the 35th-best player in the Dallas area in the Class of 2025. He is ranked as the 81st-best linebacker in the nation by 247Sports.
