'He was an elite high school prospect when he signed with TCU.'

Hmm...
He was a QB in high school but really didn't have a position in college. He is a tremendous athlete but needed to learn a position and find a fit in a system. Gary used to do this all the time. I am not sure that in this day with NIL and the portal that we can take kids like this in the future and try to develop them.

Here's one of those four schools in four years guys. Seems to me they do themselves no favors as they are constantly learning new systems. I guess it is just about getting as much $$$$ as they can now before facing reality.

The NCAA Transfer Portal may be closed for the LSU Tigers, but the market remains a hot topic in college football with programs reconstructing rosters ahead of the 2025 season. For LSU, the Bayou Bengals have seen several pieces depart the program,

But schools keep taking and paying him.
I do wonder if all these NIL programs end up merging an ROI calculation with a WAR analysis and then channel the money to impact players and positions. The first step would be to identify the cost per win and then determine if a player projects to have a higher win total than the average, if the asking price exceeds the COST X WAR then you pass on paying a player. You may however overpay if you believe that your roster only lacks a player or two and through position scarcity that player exists in the open market.

He certainly doesn’t seem to have the necessary skills/talent. OTOH, he probably couldn’t pick a better year to declare, idk if I’ve seen ANY QB this year who looks like a safe bet to spend a high first round pick on.

Yet probably at least 4 QBs will go in the top 10 (including Ewers) because teams are desperate and QB is probably the most impactful position in all of sports and teams get desperate yearly.
