This is exactly the same reason why CEOs at Fortune 500s have seen their salaries balloon. It's all public knowledge, so they can easily show what the market is and demand the same. Then the market goes up, and they do it again.
I don't know if that's what Schloss is doing, but it seems like the logical thing to do even if he's not actively looking to leave. Patterson has said the same thing, but I'm not sure how often he's actually done it.
