We should’ve hired Coach Prime

His first game they go on the road and get the W with a great offensive performance. Sonny’s first game he goes on the road, benches a Heisman finalist and barely squeaks by a terrible 1-11 team. The difference is apparent already. Coach Prime would’ve at least had us ready for Georgia and made it competitive. Terrible hiring choice by our AD and Board.

If Prime gets to the National Championship game for this season and for the next few seasons, then maybe we should have hired him. But a lot of water has to flow under the bridge before that idea has merit, especially given the great year that we had last year under our current coaching regime. Some act as though our season is already over. Both teams and coaches have a long way to go before we can evaluate this year reliably.

There were many discussions concerning Deion when he threw his hat in the ring. A number of people were involved in that discussion Everyone knew he would be a great recruiter, his knowledge of football is second to none. His hiring would be instant notoriety, but with his history the people who make these decisions said, not now.

You know of course, without thinking too much, Deion could be a bust later. He's only had just ONE (1)
game, (repeat one game) that he won. Coaching should be labelled....you're either a king or a A..h.. And it all happens in just..... 48 hours.

20-20 vision is a marvellous thing, but it deals with the past, not the future.

ONE thing is abundantly clear, the alumni, fans, media Mom and Dads expect MORE OUT OF TCU THAN LAST YEAR. The reaction of Saturday's game was an instant uproar from all!! Huge disappoint not because we lost to Colorado, but because of our performance. We expect, no demand, we win because that is what we did last year and we liked it. A lot!!

Post script: The pressure on Sonny is greater today and tomorrow, than the pressure was on GP. And if the program continues to be successful, the next coach will have even more pressure than either GP or Sonny. That's the way it is, you know. Success always comes with commitment and a price.

Coach Prime is a circus and with that you get the good and the bad. TCU didn’t need a circus - our program was not in a ditch- it needed tweaking. Sonny Dykes tweaked it well. Colorado was in shambles and needed a circus- which will ultimately run its course and get tiresome. TCU was looking for a long term fix - Prime comes in and puts in a show then leaves to the next town with the circus. TCU didn’t need that - Sonny is still going to have a very good season.

This makes sense and appreciate your point re the circus being temporary with no guaranteed results. The only question mark is your last sentence. The K State, GA and Colorado games looked to me a lot like what we saw in GPs last couple of years. Getting blown out by superior competition (Ohio State, Oklahoma) and losing to inferior Big12 opponents in frustrating fashion (in the Cheez It bowl and non-bowl years we usually lost to Tech, Texas, etc).

Last years team was pooped playing that K State game and we lost in overtime. No shame there.

Michigan was a top 4 team - we won - that’s all you want. Ga was a blow out but nobody preps for Ga in 1 week. Colo was a let down but I think we’ll figure it out. Still a lot of football to be played.

Sanders would have never gotten last years squad to the Natty. So your premise is silly.

It shouldn’t have gone to OT. We got the ball back with a decent amount of clock and all the momentum and Somny decided to take a knee presumably because he didn’t want to turn it over but once again we had all the momentum.

In business or on a field, if you're scared of loosing, You WILL lose. In fact, in this country, complacency is where you sit back and let the other guy make decisions which affect your life. Personal positive decision-making is coming a rarity these days!

Sustained success depends on your definition. If it is playing for the NC playoffs every year, that means a roster of at least 50% blue chips. You can make it once with less. This is why dozens of programs are trying many different shady things. UC is not the only moribund program trying to reinvent itself. Both Florida and Miami spent buku dollars to attract players who normally would not be interested in the Hurricane/Gator brand. UC put their money in a coach.

My take is this is unsustainable. Unless the boosters want to make giving to the football program a permanent cost center, the university is not going to be able to afford. If Mel Tucker is worth 10M for a singular season, imagine what Prime is going to demand if he does run the gauntlet which is the Pac12 this year. Prime may be coming. But he is also going!
