GoFrogs: TCU Grabs Convincing Win over K-State

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's basketball snapped its losing streak in convincing fashion, beating Kansas State, 87-70, in its annual #Play4Kay game at Schollmaier Arena on Saturday afternoon.
TCU (17-9, 8-7) had a 17-point lead at halftime and it never went below 12 points in the second half as the Frogs shot 54 percent on the night. Amy Okonkwo led TCU with 22 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Frogs snap a four-game losing streak.
Fellow post player Jordan Moore added 16 points as she and Okonkwo combined to shoot 15-of-21 from the floor and 8-of-8 at the free throw line. The duo was a big reason behind TCU outscoring Kansas State (13-13, 5-10) in second-chance points, 23-5.
Amber Ramirez and Toree Thompson added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for TCU with Ramirez chipping in six assists. Jayde Woods also had six assists.
Kayla Goth led K-State with 23 points, and Peyton Williams added 21.
Defining Moments
TCU closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run over the final two minutes, pushing a three-point lead to a 23-13 advantage after 10 minutes. TCU then hit 9-of-15 shots in the second quarter while holding K-State to 5-of-14. The Frogs outscored K-State 24-17 in the second quarter and pushed the lead to 17 points at halftime, 47-30.
Included in the second quarter was an 8-0 TCU run after the Wildcats had cut the lead down to seven points midway through the quarter. The run started with a pair of Okonkwo free throws with 6:22 remaining. Thompson then hit mid-range jumpers on back-to-back possessions before a Sydney Coleman jumper capped the run and gave TCU a 36-21 lead with 4:07 to go.
The Wildcats would only get as close as 12 points in the second half, doing so midway through the fourth quarter.
