Gary's Worst Home Loss Ever!

Just looking at some stats--this is Gary's worst home loss of his HC career.

Point differential is the same as the 31-6 drubbing we took on November 19, 2016 at hands of OSU.

But, this game, the first down differential 40% worse (28-18 in 2016, vs. 26-12 today)

Total yard differential 30% worse (-198 in 2016; -261 today)

Yards allowed per play 10% worse (2016 -- 541/80 = 6.76; today, 536/72 = 7.44)

And, this one was worse than either of the 2 drubbings last year by a playoff OU team with a Heisman winner; this year's OU team won't be in the playoffs, prolly won't have a Heisman winner.

And I’ll give Patterson’s defense a pass. can’t play well all season and up to this game, the defense has been playing well.

The real mess is on offense.

The real mess today was on defense. Tackling? Play calling--constant cutback plays we aren't ready for?

Oh, it's the players' fault. They aren't executing. They need to grow up.

Well, who teaches them to execute? Who is paid countless millions to deliver wins, not record-breaking losses?

Steel can't imagine this kind of on-field product under a good young coach like the one from University of North Texas.

Sometimes you need your Moses to get you out of captivity and lead you through the wilderness but it takes a Joshua to get you into the Promised Land.

Not suggesting that it’s time for a change but also don’t want to be caught unprepared either. Hopefully we’ve got some real strong sense of what we need to be doing to get to the level we aspire to be at. And I don’t think this current version is approaching that.

The inferior performance of our offensive line and their seemingly lack of improvement

after seven games remains one of a series of deficiencies that has plagued this season's

performance. Coaching, lack of talent?.....something is obviously amiss.

On Defense--isn't it the case that we have for years had pretty bad tackling?

Gary may spend his limited practice time teaching the gimmicky, overly-complicated defensive scheme and not teaching the fundamentals of tackling.

How does any other team have a good defense without the genius Gary's scheme?

Our defense fell from 14th to 23rd just on today's performance alone in yards allowed per game FBS.

So, 23rd ranked defense = genius? Not by Steel's definition...

Oh, you might counter, But we've played the top offenses in the country--no defense could withstand that kind of talent!

Here's the offensive rankings of our opponents:

82 (FCS)
2
124
98
51
8
7

By comparison, our O is ranked 65.

Aaand, we are 3-4 with 5 games to go, including OSU and WVU.

This fiction you like to tell yourselves to somehow assuage your egos, that Gary is some kind of defensive genius, is just that, a fiction. Numbers and eyeball test do not support it.

Doesn’t it seem like the defensive calls from GP are coming in too late ?

Not ever time but it seems worst than ever ... my opinion of course

Our D has played very good up to today. It sure looks like Riley is outcoaching Gary. Not just today, but both times last year and the year before.
Maybe Gary is too predictable with his sets? Our guys seem to be on their heels as he is calling the play in. I don't know what the problem is, but something seems very off.
