WKOW: Wisconsin-TCU ticket demand lagging other games

MADISON (WKOW) -- A ticket to Wisconsin-TCU's Rose Bowl game is a precious commodity on the schools' respective campuses and among their fan bases.

But in the secondary ticket market where much of a bowl game's commerce takes place?

Not so much.

"The Rose Bowl this year is slow," Sales manager Nick Terlap of Chicago-based ticket agency Vivid Seats told WKOW27 News.

"Compared to last year, when it was Ohio State vs. Oregon, we probably doubled what our sales are now for this year."

Some ticket brokers said the Sun Bowl's Notre Dame-Miami match up is selling better than the Rose Bowl, even though neither team in the Dec. 31 game in El Paso is ranked. ...

Terlap believes ... "The opponent Wisconsin is playing against, for lack of a better term, if there was a sexier team to play against Wisconsin, there could be a little bit more buzz about it."

Pffft. Who do they want? 8-5 USC? 4-8 UCLA? GMAB! They don't think the undefeated #3 ranked BCS Buster is sexy?

Wonder if they'll think 13-0 Co-Nat'l Champ TCU is sexy enough?

I assume Stanford, but as the LA Times article pointed out Stanford would not have provided the economic impact TCU is. And I doubt Stanford's ticket demand would be that much greater than TCU's.

What an idiot! A Chicago ticket broker is talking about demand in Chicago for tickets to the Rose Bowl. Oh, a 7-5 Miami is a bigger draw in Chicago than anything else -- duh!

And Stanford and VT will likely have a half filed stadium at the Orange Bowl.....

Good point. ND is a two hour drive from Chicago, of course sales are better there.

Blame ESPN. They should be hyping this game, but they are still stuck in their TCU hate. TCU is the best team in the country. How can you get a better draw than that?

What a stupid story.

Rose Bowl tickets lagging because a Chicago scalper not selling many tickets! Must be the reporters brother.

I hope the Wisconsin team hears about how "unsexy" we are!

Says the guy who likely makes a living by Wisconsin fans buying tickets through their school, then dumping them at Vivid Seats to make a couple bucks, then blames TCU?

Of course the reporter might have considered checking out what the site was peddling. A pair of tickets includes a $57.00 per ticket service charge and $13.00 for shipping. A pair of tickets costs $579.00 Who is gonna stand in that line?

Rose Bowl will still have better attendance than any other bowl. OU/UConn and VT/Stanford are really going to suck. Sugar Bowl will sell out but still bet Rose out draws it. Cotton at Jerry's World (LSU/Ags)probably will have 100K of stupid Aggies and drunk Cajuns.
