Who are we rooting for this weekend?

For what it's worth, Northern Illinois did us a kindness by beating Toledo earlier this week on a night typically reserved for J.V. volleyball matches.

The score was more resemblant of a lopsided basketball score, so many may have thought it was a Tuesday night MAC basketball game.

Iowa St. over Colorado (helps Utah's strength of schedule)
BYU over Col. St. (need BYU to get bowl eligible)
Utah over Notre Dame (our own strength of schedule and for the Utes to remain ranked)
North Carolina over Virg. Tech (hurt Boise St. strength of schedule)
Georgia over Auburn (everyone knows the reason)
Oregon St. over Wash. St. (helps our strength of schedule and OSU needs to be bowl eligible)
Air Force over New Mexico (helps our strength of schedule)
Tenn. Tech over Eastern Kent. (helps our strength of schedule)
Baylor over Tex. A&M (helps our strength of schedule)
Arizona St. over Stanford (Cardinal have only one loss)
California over Oregon (everyone knows the reason)
Texas over Oklahoma St. (Cowboys have only one loss)
Fresno St. over Nevada (hurts Boise St. strength of schedule)

Unreliastic but hopeful

Idaho over Boise St. (everyone knows the reason)
Indiana over Wisconsin (Badgers have only one loss)
Penn St. over Ohio St. (Buckeyes have only one loss)
Kansas over Nebraska (Huskers have only one loss)
La. Monroe over LSU (Tigers have only one loss)

Right now only 4 teams on TCU's schedule are bowl eligible with the possibility that there could be 7 teams. Oregon St. and BYU need to win two more games and SMU needs to win one more game.

The definitive list, in order of importance:

1. TCU over San Diego State, self explanitory
2. Georgia over Auburn, because if Auburn loses this and to Alabama; and LSU loses at Arkansas on Nov 27, it will completely end any 1-loss SEC champ talks for good.
3. California over Oregon, self explanitory.
4. Utah over Notre Dame. A win will work, but Utah has to be somewhat impressive here. Winning by a TD won't do much good, IMO. This worries me a bit, since Utah is coming off an emotional loss(Like Virginia Tech did earlier in the year) and Notre Dame has had 2 weeks to prepare. We need a good Utah win to show last week wasn't just beating an average team.
5. North Carolina over Virginia Tech. Why is this more important than Baylor beating A&M? Because Virginia Tech is literally a house of cards at this point, any loss will destroy them for good, which will hurt Boise State. James Madison is already doing a number on Virginia Tech, North Carolina winning would be the dagger.
6. Baylor over Texas A&M. Baylor won't take much of a hit in the computers should they lose this one, but still, a win would help our perception.
7. Texas over Oklahoma State. We don't need the 1-loss Big 12 discussion to start flaring up, which is why we need a Texas win here. Also, Wyoming is connected to Texas.
8. Fresno State over Nevada. Boise State is banking on a ranked, 1 loss Nevada to be their "Utah" game, a game against a ranked team on the road to be their statement game. However, a 2 loss unranked Nevada team on November 26 wouldn't be much of a statement.
9. Iowa State over Colorado. We need Iowa State to win here to not only help Utah's profile, but hurt Hawaii's.
10. Navy over Central Michigan. Helps Air Force's profile, hurts Virginia Tech's profile
11. Army over Kent State. Helps Air Force's profile
12. Utah State over San Jose State. We can't let Utah State continue to drag down BYU.

At this point, I'm less worried about computer averages than I am about staying in front of Boise in the human polls. If we stay in front, the computers won't matter. For that reason, other than our and Boise's games, I'll only be really concerned about rooting for:

1. Utah, for obvious reasons. If they win out, I feel safe.
2. Fresno State. A Boise pounding of a ranked Nevada will swing some votes while we're idle.
3. Auburn. If the Tigers lose to Georgia, we're screwed out of the MNC. Either they go on to beat Bama and jump back in front of us, or they lose to Bama, handing the SEC West to LSU, who jumps us (assuming the West team wins the SEC championship game).
4. Baylor and North Carolina.

Beyond that, I don't care what happens.

One of the weirdest things about college football is that the system we have in place now turns TCU fans in to huge fans of Utah, Baylor, and SMU, with Alabama thrown in for good measure. Absurd.

Agreed. I went from standing, yelling at my TV last week during the LSU win vs. 'Bama, to now rooting for 'Bama to beat Auburn.

I suppose MIami beating Georgia Tech is good considering GT lost to VT.
