WEEI: Cannon 'doing what he can'

FOXBORO -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Saturday at Gillette Stadium that offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, whom the team drafted in the fifth round is "doing what he can do" as he works his way back from non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

"He's in all the meetings," Belichick said of the Texas Christian product. "He's on his own workout program. He does the things that everybody does, but they're specifically for him. Some things he can mainstream, other things he can't, but that's all based on medicals."

With regard to other offensive linemen in the team's group of tackles, Belichick added that the Pats didn't let the fact that they had drafted left tackle Nate Solder in the first round prevent them from retaining starter Matt Light. The team re-upped Light on a two-year deal, and the team now has three tackles capable of starting in Light, Solder and Sebastian Vollmer. ...
