USA Today: Utah, TCU clash in game with BCS ramifications

By Andy Gardiner, USA TODAY

Utah has spent the first two months of the college football season as the odd team out when talk turns to programs outside the major conferences that are battling for a shot at the national title. Unbeaten Boise State and TCU have hogged most of those headlines.

Saturday in Salt Lake City, the Utes will have their chance to join the conversation. Also undefeated, they host TCU (CBS College Sports, 3:30 p.m. ET) in a showdown that will keep the winner in the Bowl Championship Series title hunt.

"We don't mind not being in the discussion now," Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said. "Being in position at the end of the season to have something good happen to us is what we're focusing on." ...

Whittingham said Utah had its best practice of the season Monday and hopes the focus and execution carries over because the Utes face the nation's No. 1-ranked scoring defense (8.67 points a game).

"They've improved everywhere. You can't find a weakness," he said of the Horned Frogs. "They did lose some great defenders, but they haven't missed a beat. Just look where they are statistically."
