For Team USA's Hailey Van Lith, 3x3 basketball at Olympics could bring redemption of sorts​

PARIS — Hailey Van Lith swears that despite what outsiders might think, her last 15 months have not, in fact, been a miserable experience.

Yes, it’s true that Van Lith, one of the top guards in women’s college basketball the last few seasons, has had a somewhat of a rollercoaster journey, transferring from Louisville, where she was an All-American, to then defending-champion LSU in spring 2023, where she struggled, some would say significantly. She entered the transfer portal again April 4, and landed at TCU for her final season of eligibility.

But before that, Van Lith will try to silence doubters — and maybe boost her own confidence — by helping the American women defend their 3x3 basketball gold medal. The USA takes on Germany on Tuesday, July 30, in their first game of pool play.

Not sure the doubters are being silenced after a second loss in pool play to powerhouse Azerbaijan. With 6 of 8 teams in the pool advancing, though, there's still a chance.

Azerbaijan had a number of American current WNBA players on their squad. Doesn't take much to buy players for a three person team

Hailey with some strong play in the U.S.' win yesterday vs. Spain. LeBron James was in the house for a little extra juice.

But 1-3 is still bottom of the pool. They have back-to-back games today (11a) vs. Canada and France.

USA womens 3x3 with two wins today--OT over Canada and by 1 over France to get to 3-3. I think they have one more pool game and will advance with a win.

Van Lith made a key basket from outside the arc, but defensively, she keeps chasing outside around screens instead of collapsing inside. Can't do that when there's no help.
