There's always a lot of talk about how much big grad programs and research dollars are required to move the needle on the rankings, but look at TCU closing the gap on peer undergrad institutions and large research universities that have much greater research and broader graduate offerings (including medical schools).  That speaks a lot to TCU's undergraduate degree competitiveness:

8:  Duke
16:  Vanderbilt
19:  Rice
27:  Wake Forest
31:  Boston College
53:  Texas
54:  Pepperdine, Tulane
58:  SMU
68:  Texas A&M
71:  Baylor
76:  TCU
88:  Denver, Tulsa
106:  Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma
126:  Seton Hall
142:  Kansas State
145:  Oklahoma State,
146:  UT Dallas
156:  Texas Tech
168:  West Virginia
189:  Houston

Lots of people criticize rankings, and rightfully so.  But they matter, and TCU's Trustees, administrators, and faculty should be very proud of the hard work they've done.  Donors, students and alums, too.  Truly a rapid and unprecedented rise.

SMU, Pepperdine, Baylor and Rice don't have medical schools. Baylor SOM is not affiliated with the university. I do think that TCU has to found or purchase a law school in the future to continue its growth. A medical school would be unfeasible due to the expense.

The first 3 have well-regarded law schools, and Rice is a major research university.
