FORT WORTH, Texas — Trevone Boykin is a Bill Snyder-type quarterback, a dual-threat who can throw and run the ball.
The past two years when Boykin wasn’t even the full-time quarterback for TCU, Snyder saw something he liked. Now, with the job his and a new up-tempo spread offense that suits his skills, Boykin is arguably the most improved player in the nation.
“The system fits Boykin,” Snyder said. “He’s a very gifted athlete. He can run the option and the quarterback-run stuff and he’s throwing the ball extremely well. He can throw the ball downfield, not just the short stuff.
“I never felt he was anything other than an excellent talent. They were playing within a system that was well coordinated within their system and beneficial to their defense, but they’ve expanded that. His numbers are far greater, but I always thought he was a good talent.” ...
