Anyone with the chance to listen want to enlighten the rest of us? I heard CDC did a great job but don't know any details.

CDC stood up for the Big 12 pretty well, made mention that those other perceived "better" conferences have many teams that have no expectations of winning but are just happy to be there.

He said all the things you'd expect him to say. Fairly generic interview, but he was good.

CDC
  • Lot of the same points he always makes (front porch of university, debt free facilities, etc.)
  • Athletics has helepd get our name out there particularly in CA because of Rose bowl and LT. Now get ~30% of students from CA. (I am not sure if that is actually true or not)
  • Big 12 making tons of money and do not want to expand/add teams. Not here just to be here. Want to win. So do the other teams in the conference.
  • Need to win in football but the big 12 is the top 1-2 RPI conference in pretty much every other major sport (mens BBall, baseball, womens bball, etc.). Conference is in a VERY good place and making much more money than ACC and PAC 12 and not locked into a contract into the 2030s.
Dixon:
  • Wanted to win right away
  • Trent Johnson had a tough job with injuries and facilities. Had a great core of players
  • The addition of Fischer and Bain were big with the addition of players coming off injury
  • Were good enough to be a tournament team but stumbled at the end of the season
  • NIT was a confidence builder. Gets the name and program out there on national TV.
  • We do lots of international recruiting so the NIT is pretty big deal because lots of people don't get american channels like TBS or TNT but they do get ESPN. Joked that some Australian kids think we won the national championship.
  • Got to enjoy the last game of the season finally. Usually ends with a loss.
  • They asked what it was like to coach at a "football school". Before being hired CDC told him that we were a great overall athletic department and were not wanting to be just a football school. A couple days later he was looking out of his office and they were putting up a statue of Gary Patterson.
  • CGP has made it possible for him to return to TCU and has made a lot of programs success possible (Baseball, Tennis, Volleyball)
  • Fun being around a school and city going through growth and rebirth. Pitt/Pittsburgh went through a lot of the growth and change that is taking place at TCU and Fort Worth. Joked that downtown was a place nobody ever went but now they take recruits/players/families down to Sundance and other areas of town.
  • Joked that he is always part of the hardest conference. Big east to ACC to Big 12. Big 12 might not get national exposure of Big East because it is not in the major east coast cities but it is a harder conference. No bad teams now that TCU has improved. Loves that set up of the 10 teams. Double round robin and play every team home and home.
Edit
Patterson:
Unable to really summarize what he said. He kind of just jumped from point to point. Some of the same points he generally likes to make.

On staying here - Be a ripple and grow roots.

On the Playoffs - Parity should allow an expansion 6 to 8 teams. Conference championship game needs the 2 best teams to play each other. Kind of like politics - you never know what is right and what is wrong.

GP almost was on the verge of going off on how the Frogs were left out because they were not a clear conference winner in 2014 and had no 13th data point but Ohio St got in with no 13th data point and no conference title. He had to hold back.
