The Spun: Ezekiel Elliott Calls Kolby Listenbee “Delusional” For Saying TCU Is Rightful 2014 National Champion

#HotSportsTakes. Athletes have them just like the rest of us. This evening, former TCU star Kolby Listenbee somewhat-randomly tweeted that he believes his Horned Frogs deserved to be the 2014 national champions.

We’re not sure what the impedus of this was for the Buffalo Bills wide receiver. A 41-20 win over a pretty non-descript Iowa State team? Either way, this was not a popular stance, and the star of Ohio State’s 2014 national championship win, running back Ezekiel Elliott, let Listenbee know.

As you may remember, TCU was controversially left out of the first College Football Playoff in favor of Elliott’s Buckeyes, who went on to win the title. TCU lost a crazy 61-58 game to rival Baylor, Baylor lost at West Virginia, and Ohio State’s only loss was to Virginia Tech in September. The Buckeyes got red hot at the right time, ripping through Michigan and then destroying Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship 59-0.
You can argue that TCU should have gotten into the field ahead of Ohio State, but that’s a large jump to “TCU deserved the national champion in 2014.”

Dumb. If it's arguable that TCU should have gotten into the playoffs over tOSU, it's not that big a jump to believe TCU would have won it.
Agree, but saying we ARE the 2014 champs is a cring-worthy stretch IMO. "Should be 2014 champs" is more accurate.

Interesting that they say "TCU lost to Baylor, Baylor lost a game to West Virginia" but they don't say who Virginia Tech lost to.

In 2014, VT lost to:
East Carolina
GA Tech
Pitt
Miami FL
Boston College
Wake Forest

TCU loses in 2OT to a top 5 team.. Ohio State loses at home to a 6-6 team... Ohio State is clearly more deserving... (eyeroll)

Edit: not OT. Got my Baylor games crossed.

2 OT???? Dammit, did I turn off that game too early?

Twitter, of course, being the place where language should be parsed

That's the thing about the playoff; Elliot will never know if he was on the best team or not. And TCU can always know there was a good chance we were...

Here is a fact EE, would have NEVER run 2 plays over and over against the front 7 TCU had that year. Oregon defense was absolutely the worst that could be put on the field. Both TCU LB'ers would have busted his ass all might long.
