Read this book by Buzz Bissinger recently. Really good and, while it is about college football and WWII in the Pacific, it's about much more than that. If you haven't read it yet, suggest giving it a try, especially if you like college football history.
Great writer, will read for sure

Just finished this while waiting for football to start. I found this a fascinating way to look at the war in the Pacific. He mentioned a TCU player who played in that game, Mendle Earl "Big John Bond". He was an All SWC back who was drafted in 1944 by the Boston Yanks. I was able to find a picture of him and that he had later been a teacher & coach in Shamrock TX.
