Imagine a dingy cave, the sole illumination provided by a projection screen on which Gary Patterson can watch footage of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, stalactites, and little else.
That will more or less be the scene in Fort Worth at 7 p.m., when 11 men and one woman — former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice — unveil their first set of rankings for the College Football Playoff.
“I didn’t look at [the rankings] last year, I’m not going to look at it this year,” said Patterson, whose undefeated Horned Frogs are ranked fifth in the most recent Associated Press poll. “Right now, we’ve just been in a dark room watching Oklahoma State, getting ready.” ...
