... Whether it happens this year or not, the ripple effect caused by VCU and Butler rocking the boat goes beyond the Final Four. The fallout also will be felt by the BCS, the convoluted system by which college football teams are rated and slotted into bowl games, including the BCS title game. In basketball, VCU or Butler actually will get to prove itself against either Kentucky or UConn. In football last season, Texas Christian and Boise State had to rely on computer rankings and human polls in hopes of earning a shot at playing for the national championship. TCU took care of business in the Rose Bowl by defeating Wisconsin, but the undefeated Horned Frogs were excluded from the national championship game - Auburn defeated Oregon for the title - because they did not finish the regular season ranked either No.1 or No.2. ...
