LAS VEGAS — Max Hall, who threw for more yards than any Brigham Young quarterback other than Ty Detmer, has moved on. So has Harvey Unga, the school’s all-time rushing leader.
Dennis Pitta, an All-American, and fellow tight end Andrew George also are gone, as is defensive end Jan Jorgensen, a three-time all-conference selection. The Cougars, in fact, have to replace half of their starters from last season, having lost five on offense and six on defense.
So it would be easy for sixth-year coach Bronco Mendenhall, whose teams have gone 43-9 during the past four years, to write off the coming season as a rebuilding year.
But Mendenhall doesn’t see it that way. ...
