Gray beat the qualifier Elmer Moller 3 and 3 and has advanced to the quarters at Heraklion where he will face Charles Broom, who played 3 seasons at Dartmouth but has now transferred to Baylor as a graduate transfer. Broom is also British and he has an ATP ranking of #820.

Alastair Gray lost to Broom this morning 6-7 (5-7), 4-6 so that's it for Heraklion3, but not to worry, there's a 4th tourney there next week.

Cam Norrie will lead Team GB in the Davis Cup Finals, starting tomorrow in Innsbruck where the Brits will take on France on Saturday and Czechia on Sunday. It'll be in front of nobody because COVID is spiking there, but will be available on TV. Cam will play #1 singles in both ties.

Guessing Norris will get Monfils (#21) and then Vesily (#82) from Czech.

It may have been Britain v. France in the eerie silence (due to COVID) of the opening round of the Davis Cup Finals at Innsbruck this morning, but it was really TCU v. Texas A&M as British #1 Cam Norrie beat the former Aggie Arthur Rinderknech 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) to lead the Brits to the 2nd round with a 2-1 victory over France. The 2nd set was exciting as it went to a breaker, but Cam was able to mount a thrilling comeback from being down 1-4 and survived 2 set points to clinch the W. Which turned out to be pivotal as Dan Evans had won the first singles match but the British doubles team of Salisbury/Skupski ended up losing. The Brits can clinch their group and advance to the quarters with a W over Czechia tomorrow. Cam said he really enjoyed being part of a team again and that they've been playing cornhole and darts in preparation. Cam is now #12 in the world in the ATP.

After Dan Evans lost the opening match for Team GB against Czechia at the Davis Cup Finals in Innsbruck, it was up to Cam Norrie to save Britain's bacon with a W at #1 singles. And he came through, with a 3-setter against Jiri Lechecka; setting the stage for a deciding doubles match, which Salisbury/Skupski provided the necessary W. So the Brits have won their Group and have advanced to the quarterfinals, which will be against either Germany or Serbia on Tuesday. The quarters will remain in Innsbruck - if they win, the semis will be in Madrid. If it's Serbia, that'll mean another match between Norrie and Djoker, who is the Serb #1 (in addition to being a GOAT candidate and the world #1). If it's Germany, it won't be Zverev because he's not playing. If Germany beats Austria later today, it'll be the Germans.

Looks like it's GB vs. Germany

Reese Stalder and partner Gijs Brouwer won the doubles tournament at last week's ATP Challenger in Puerto Vallarta. Reese's ATP doubles rank went up 50 points to a career-high 267.
That's great for Stalder! This is his 2nd tour title in doubles and is making him somewhat of a doubles specialist. I've been looking for his results, but he hadn't played singles since late August/early September, but evidently, much more active in doubles.

The Britain v. Germany Davis Cup quarterfinal just started on CBS Sports network. Evans v. Gojowczyk is the first match; Norrie will follow.

Evans just won 2 and 1, so Norrie and the Brits are up 1-0. if they win, they'll get either Sweden or the Russians in the semis in Madrid. Cam can clinch a berth there with a W now. He's playing Jan-Leonard Struff, who is the German #1 (in the absence of Zverev), with an ATP ranking of #51. They've met only once before, in the semis at Auckland 2 years ago. Cam is now up to $4.9 million in prize money for his career.

Terrible start for Norrie as he trails 1-4 early. Struff is like Isner/Opelka - very tall and a big server and he started out on fire.

Cam breaks back and it's now 3-4 - even on serve.
4-all. Cam didn't let the early pressure get to him.
4-5. Struff recovers and holds.
5-all.
6-5! Cam gets his 2nd break and takes the lead!
6-all. Struff breaks back to take it to a breaker.
Struff takes the breaker 8-6 and wins the first set 7-6.

Down a set. Cam needs to start better and take this set.

2-1 early. Even on serve in the 2nd.
2-all. This match is more even than it should be.
3-2. Cam serving better.
4-2! Cam gets the key break!
5-2. Cam holds with a wonderful drop volley.
5-3. Cam needs to serve out this set and take it to a deciding 3rd.
6-3! Cam gets a love hold and ends the set with an ace.

It took 3 sets for Norrie to beat Lechecka and Czechia and it'll take this 3rd to beat Germany and earn a semifinal Davis Cup berth.

love-1 early. Struff serving first in the 3rd.
1-all. Norrie painting the lines...
1-2. Love hold for Struff.
2-all. Cam holds just as easily.
2-3. Norrie had some chances...
2-4. Norrie digs himself a love-40 hole, fights back and saves 3 break points, but then falls to a late break.
2-5. Solid big serves by Struff.
Cam falls 2-6. (sigh). It'll be up to the British doubles team of Salisbury/Skrupski to save the Brits' chances.
