Tom Hoge had a good round going on Thursday at the U.S. Open. Was -2 through 16 but finished bogey-bogey on 8 & 9. Still in good shape to make the cut. He was one of a handful of players who made par on 17 from the lower right side of the green. Video at https://www.usopen.com/scoring.html (have to look it up on his card) showing him chipping from on section of the green to the other there.

Paul Barjon quietly posts his third top-10 in three starts on the Mackenzie tour (T6 at the GolfBC Championship). He leads the Canadian tour in scoring average and is second in the Order of Merit. Top 5 at end of season get automatic promotion to the Web.com tour. Nine events remaining.

Emmy Martin wins the Florida State Amateur in her first major tournament since graduating from TCU. Her opponent in the match play final shot a front-nine 30, but Emmy hung tough. Two down through 15, she won the last three holes, including a chip-in on the 16th, for a hard-fought 1-up win. Congrats to her.

Edit: After finishing stroke play T49 at +11, Emmy won 6 rounds of match play, including taking out the top-ranked amateur in the state and #1 seed Megan Schofill (-6 in stroke play). More photos from Emmy's win here: https://www.fsga.org/News/Details/1704

Three current and two incoming Frogs teed it up this week in the R&A's Amateur Championship at Portmarnock, Ireland, with two rounds of stroke play followed by match play among the top 64 and ties.

David Ravetto and Stefano Mazzoli both made it through the field of 288 players to make match play. Mazzoli lost yesterday in Round 1 of match play, but Ravetto won and is currently 2 up through 12 holes in his second-round match with Josh Armstrong of Australia. Follow progress here: https://www.randa.org/Championships/TheAmateurChampionship/MP-Results#/competition/2058825/matchplay

Update: Ravetto wins 3&1 to advance to the Round of 32.

I like Wolff's strange move. Seems very repeatable; I only wonder how well it works in terms of precision wedge play.

OK, I guess precision wedge play not a problem for Wolff.

Congrats to the guy on his first PGA Tour win, with an eagle at the last to win by a shot. Joins Ben Crenshaw and Tiger Woods as the only players to win the NCAA individual title and a PGA Tour title in the same year.
