TCU 360: Five football players on award watch lists for upcoming season
Written by Branson Nelson
Football season has yet to begin, but the hype is already mounting for TCU, with five players on potential award watch lists.
Center Austin Schlottmann was named to the Watch List for the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s best center, running back Kyle Hicks was added to the Watch List for the Maxwell Award, given to the country’s College Player of the Year and linebackers Ty Summers and Travin Howard were named to the 2017 Bednarik Award Watch List for the nation’s best defensive player. Sophmore Adam Nunez joined the group Wednesday, by being put on the watch list for the Ray Guy Award, given to the nation’s best punter.
Schlottmann, a senior from Brenham, Texas, has seen action in 37 of TCU’s 39 games since stepping foot on campus. He has started 15 games including 11 in 2016, missing the Kansas and Oklahoma games due to injury. Schlottmann allowed zero sacks and just one quarterback pressure over his 752 snaps during the 2016 season, leading to a second-team All-Big 12 honor.
