College Football Player Arrested After Refusing to Pull Up Sagging Pants on Plane
Published June 16, 2011 | FoxNews.com

A University of New Mexico football player was removed from a plane at San Francisco International Airport and arrested after refusing to pull up his sagging pants, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Deshon Marman, 20, who was in San Francisco to attend a former high school teammate's funeral, was asked to pull up his pants before boarding a US Airways flight to Albuquerque, N.M., on Wednesday morning.

Marman's trousers were below his waist and exposed his boxer shorts, the newspaper quoted a police spokesman as saying.

Why should the airport cops care about exposed boxer shorts?

Certainly I don't wear my clothes that way (deliberately), but my personal tastes, and the airport cops', are beside the point.

If they thought Mr. Droopydrawers was carrying something illegal, they should have searched for contraband. And done it as politely as possible. And of course busted him if he was showing his Weiner, but the reports says nothing about that sort of problem.

Now he's being held at public expense for
suspicion [ ] of trespassing, battery and resisting arrest
.

Maybe there's a wrongful arrest cause of action to be pursued. It did happen in San Francisco, after all.

agree. While extreme sagging looks extremely silly in my late 50's viewpoint, showing part of your boxer shorts is not obscene. And seems a lot less distasteful than women whose thong is sticking way out of the top of the back of their low rider jeans or showing way too much cleavage with their low cut tops. Not that I don't like some cleavage now and again but sometimes it is just too much. I don't really understand people's infatuation against sagging to the point that city council's in multiple cities trying to make it illegal. Way too many other far more important things to worry about. If I am their employer or their mother than I have a right to say something. Otherwise not.

Was I supposed to type something here?
The noon TV news did a story on this. The poop was that the guy was asked to pull up his pants and he told them not too nicely to get lost. He was asked again, and he was more naughty. He was then escorted from the plane where he made a big scene. Then he got arrested.

Pull up your pants, fool!

When you get on a plane, you are subject to arrest when being removed from a plane. FAA is pretty strict about this.

As for the exposed underwear look: I have no problem with a business refusing service over a dress code. It is their right to do so. You also have to draw a line because what if a guy comes into an establishment wearing no pants but just his shirt, shoes and underwear on? There is no difference in this guy and the guy wearing his pants below his [Gary Danielson] cheeks. Either of these is not illegal but a business can refuse you service of this.

Saw an (African-American) the other day at an apartment complex in FW with his pants sagged down PAST his butt cheeks. Yes, past (below) his butt cheeks. Past (below), where the entire butt would have been exposed had he not had on his boxers.
Not only obscene, but it looks just plain stupid, and it drags his race down as well.

Whether you agree with the policy of forcing him to make him pull up his pants or not, he's still a big ole dumbass for not listening.

Putting African-American in parentheses like that, implying you wanted to use another word is one of the dumbest things you can do on a forum besides actually using a racial epithet or posting porn. I hope you take a nice little vacation for that.

I doubt it. But, I do agree with you that he wanted to use other words.

A person I look up to said this

"We must never remain silent in the face of bigotry. We must condemn those who seek to divide us. In all quarters and at all times, we must teach tolerance and denounce racism, anti-Semitism and all ethnic or religious bigotry wherever they exist as unacceptable evils. We have no place for haters in America -- none, whatsoever."

So if a white kid does this, do you feel dragged down? Or does that also reflect negatively on (African-Americans)?

and I have seen plenty of white kids who sag....and it just drags me down. It is the primary reason why I drink Thunderbird from a bottle in a brown paper bag sitting on the curb downtown every evening.

My son started wearing his pants like that years ago. I took him to the side and asked him where he thought the fashion came from and then I let him know originally from Prison. I asked him if he had heard the reason why and he answered no. I let him know there were two stories one being they would not allow belts and were not asked what size they were therefore pants too big. The other story was pants worn like that showed who was the prison ladies (sorry had to change verbiage). After I stated all of this I looked at him and asked him if he wanted to look like a fricken prisoner or if he lost weight or was he a prison lady (you know the meaning).

He is now a proud cowboy who has been riding bulls for a living for over 15 years.

You're right if the business is Mom's Diner.

But I think you are wrong if you are an airline or other regulated carrier. Businesses offering public accommodations including travel do NOT have unfettered discretion to turn customers away.

Weren't there a bunch of men in Arab dress kicked off an airliner a few months ago because they "frightened" passengers or crew? Juan Williams was fired as an NPR news commentator over his dumb [Gary Danielson] remarks about the situation, and hired by Fox where dumb [Gary Danielson] comments are savored.

IIRC the airline made some public apologies and paid some settlement money to the Arabs. Wouldn't shock me if the same thing happened in this situation.

Flying on a plane is not a right, it's a privilege.

What the article is too nice to say, is that the guy's CRACK was showing. He had his pants down so low that his undies and CRACK showed. He also bent over to pick up a few things he dropped and bent over again to pick up his luggage and he mooned everyone in the area.

My own personal opinion is that kids who do this are doing it to send a big fat giant message of - "SCREW YOU I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT" to everyone they come in contact with.

Fellow passengers, Ticket Agents and Airport Police tried to be very nice to him and asked him very politely to fix the issue. He told them all what he thought of them.

Funny you would take the offenders side in this when everyone involved tried to be really nice.
