When Gary Patterson calls you a “rock star,” you know you’re doing something right in life. And TCU defensive line coach Zarnell Fitch is doing a lot right these days.

In his fifth year of coaching at his alma mater, with a loving wife, five kids, and a career trajectory firmly pointing up, the Pied Piper of Horned Frogs football recruiting is truly living his dream.

“We (his wife Mollie) would sit on the couch at night, and I would throw it out there, ‘How cool would it be for us to go back to TCU?’" Fitch said. "You hope, and you never know, but we would just talk about, ‘This would be so cool.’ For it to be here, it’s still unbelievable.”

It wasn’t always easy for Z, though. Raised in small-town Spencer, Okla., by a single mother, Fitch was lightly recruited out of high school. This led to him taking his talents to Navarro College, a junior college in Corsicana. Two successful football seasons later, he was garnering attention from schools across the Big 12 and Southeastern Conference. Big-time programs had found him.
