With the outcome of the game rapidly shedding itself of all doubt, the press box conversation Saturday shifted to the young man in purple whose football future was brightening directly before our eyes.

The Oklahoma Sooners, rich in thoroughbreds, had overwhelmed the Horned Frogs. But there were moments, like his 99-yard touchdown return, when Turpin looked like the best- or second-best athlete on the field.
“Awesome,” TCU coach Gary Patterson would say after the game.
“Turpin lights up the stadium.”
Less than 12 hours later, however, Turpin was standing beneath a light bulb of a different sort -- posing for his booking photo at a Fort Worth jail, after being accused of misdemeanor assault of a longtime girlfriend.
