After TCU's 86-46 victory over Idaho State Sunday, coach Mark Campbell spoke about the importance of communication at a high level and how the Horned Frogs are on a journey to be a solid unit on the court.

Campbell pinpointed areas of improvement for Hailey Van Lith and the rest of the squad ahead of a key game against Notre Dame Friday. Campbell joined TCU in 2023 and has led the team to a 7-0 unbeaten start to the season.

I don't know Mark Campbell, but his press conferences make me think, "I want to be like that guy."

After a 40-point win, he goes out of his way to praise the opposing squad ("a scrappy, gritty group who plays hard") and coach ("does a great job; knew he'd have his team ready"), the TCU assistant who handles scout team duty ("Nia...had our team really well prepared"), and a reserve who scored 5 points in 10 minutes ("KG gave us great minutes--a lot of energy--she impacted the game").

He also praises his team repeatedly, while still emphasizing how much work they still need to do. Who doesn't want to work for a guy like that?

Yes, we should lock him up for a long time.

Campbell also has a deftness in managing Van Lith. He keeps talking about how the team shares/distributes, and she talks about him building her confidence and encouraging her to shoot.

Idaho State clearly wanted HVL to take shots, given how they played the pick-and-roll. Both coaching staffs knew that Van Lith is a far less efficient shooter (now 0.95 points per attempt) than Prince (1.28), Conner (1.24), or Bigby (1.37). But Campbell knows it won't help to shake her confidence, and there will come a time against better teams when her ability to create shots 1-on-1 will make the difference in a tight game.

At least that's what I think he's doing. Giving her a green light to shoot, while reserving his biggest praise for her assist totals.

Who knows, it might change since ND beat USC. A top 3 projected seed against an up and coming team that beat NCS? I'd think ESPN would want that. Maybe just too much football that day. Or the Cayman Island Classic has a TV tie in with them.

Guess as to when the last time TCU WBB was ranked above Baylor in both the AP and Coaches Poll? I'm guessing never.
