After this and the Florida story yesterday, I have more respect for Gary for sticking up for his guys. Absent of some personal issues, a head coach firing the guys the coach hired mid season is just in it for himself.

Yes, NU enjoyed a structural competitive advantage with partial qualifiers for decades. Now they are another Minnesota/ Mizzou/ K-State/ Iowa State “meh” Midwestern-ish program.

Their biggest advantage IMO was they were one of the few teams on National TV all the time. They could sell that to California, Texas and Florida kids. Now everyone is on TV. Advantage gone.

Never understood the problem Nebraska had with Frank Solich. He played for the Huskers and then served in various position coach and coordinator positions. His record as a head coach for his alma mater was pretty strong, but they canned him after a 9-3 season.
