It was ugly. Initial call was horrendous. If the crew had immediately got together and announced there was no foul, (done in the NFL all the time), it wouldn't have been a major issue. The B should have immediately gone to the F and told him he needed to make sure he had it right. I felt bad for the R, who is a TCU alum and a good friend of mine, not that anybody really cares about what I have to say.
Have you ever seen a call overturned like that, and that late? F and R had a discussion and looked back a couple of times to B before announcing the foul. I mean, I’m not sure what to think other than some combination of crowd reaction/replay on jumbotron influenced that outcome.

Thank goodness because the call was criminal.

Yeah, they got it right (not like it mattered) but boy that was a bad look.
They did and that's to their credit. Football officiating and baseball umpiring are difficult and mistakes happen. Hahaha.... Not nearly at the same level but for a few years back in the '90s I used to umpire little league and pony league baseball in Dallas. It was fun but, every now and then, I'd miss a call and I knew it and, man, I'd catch it from parents and coaches. It makes you focus very quickly.

It was. They ran into a better team. That has nothing to do with my comments. People do not think of Tennessee when they hear "UT" and aggy is really aggy.
just kiddin with ya.

However, throughout the SEC region (the traditional part), they tend to think of Tennessee when they hear UT. Hence all the great Spurrier jabs at Knoxville. Same with the ones from Bammers and UK.

I think the problem is waiting SOOOO long to overturn the call. They should have flagged Texas for the delay (bottles) and overturned it. Then SEC office would not have been scuddling with a statement to make it worse. However, Birmingham is good about doing just that.

Yeah. Texas should have been penalized for delay or unsportsmanlike conduct.

I think the whole issuing the "I'm sorry" stuff was a bit reactionary. If i'm gonna pay a fine, I aint gonna kiss your ass to do it. SEC has become such a pr side show about things. When I was a kid and we were with family over there at games, it was what it was ... a good time and dudes kicking each other's ass.

People forget a few things about college football.... It is entertainment. It has become a big industry - literally an industry and all that implies. The gambling industry makes huge amounts of money on college football and basketball.

There is no need to apologize for getting screwed on a [ Finebaum ]ty call. Those refs knew their chances of making it out alive were slim if they allowed that trash to stand.
