SA Express-News: Old rivals clash in suddenly crucial showdown

FORT WORTH — Only a week ago, there weren't many believers that Texas Tech or TCU would have Big 12 title hopes this season.
Suddenly, today's game at Amon G. Carter Stadium looms as a battle between two historically bitter rivals with legitimate Big 12 title hopes.
What a difference a week makes.
After Tech was blistered by Oklahoma, and Iowa State beat the Horned Frogs two weeks ago, there wasn't much title hope for either team.
But after TCU rebounded with a 49-21 victory at Baylor, and Tech delivered a 49-14 trip to the woodshed for West Virginia, it has changed a lot for both teams in the last week.
“We have a tough challenge on our hands as far as this week,” TCU coach Gary Patterson said. “We will get ready to go like we did last week. A week ago, everyone was throwing in the towel. Now, they are ready to anoint.”
