Greg McElroy explains why TCU could bounce back in 2024

Story by Sam Gillenwater

TCU fell back to earth last fall after reaching the playoff in the season prior. Now, though, the Horned Frogs could potentially project back upward this year according to Greg McElroy.

McElroy broke down a possible improvement down in Fort Worth in 2024 during an episode of ‘Always College Football’. It began with what went wrong in 2023, specifically on the offensive side of the football where they scored a touchdown less per game after being a Top-10 unit the year prior. That alone can make all the difference, especially in a season that had three losses by just a field-goal margin.

One big reason we could bounce back is that we hardly won any games last year, so it's much easier to win more games than that number compared to when you win a lot of games the previous year.

Yeah - I hear a body can bounce as much as 6 ft when it hits the concrete after jumping...but its still dead regardless of the bounce back

I like the 12-pounder for its combination of versatility and power.

True, but the games that we won, we won big. 17 points or more.

three of the games we lost were by 3 points, and lost another by 7. We flip those, and everyone is discussing us for a conference championship run this year.

That being said, I don't think we have a championship team this year.

We could bounce back or we could fall flat on our face again. Time will tell.

"Hey Sam, we need an article on why TCU might bounce back next year. Go get a couple quotes from McElroy and throw something together."

Our wins were all against teams that sucked eggs. Those meant nothing. Gotta win those tossup games. Maybe we can with Avalos.
Avalos was a huge difference maker as DC at Oregon. No reason to believe he won't be here. Along with that, if Josh Hoover can stay healthy all year and allowed to use his feet....AND we get good production from one or more RB prospects this could be an interesting season.

My Oregon Duck pal raved about him, FWTW. Said he was a terrific DC.
