On Tyler Matthews

Think maybe the committment of Tyler Matthews was more of coup than has been made of it.

Watched his film clips a couple times and was really surprised.

First of all, this kid was the number one ranked QB in the country with a 150 rating in his junior year. Threw for 2,650 yards, despite not playing the second half in alot of games. He threw 30 TD's and with only 3 intercepts. He had a 74% completion rate. 160 of 215 attempts. Alot of dropped balls in hi school, just to add to it..

He displays alot of intangibles. One is escaping the rush. On those clips, it was surprising how many times he appeared tackled and got away, only to complete a pass. He has really good feet, and a good sense of the rush, moving out of harm's way with ease.. He seems to be able to really see the field well, and excels at finding the open receiver. He's big at 6'3 205. On one shot from behind it appears he has fairly big legs and just has a big frame. One of the great attributes of Dalton was his durability. This guy has that build. He may play at 220 some day.

Does all the basics, quick release, can throw deep and on the run, great arm with lots of velocity. Has reasonable speed much like Dalton. Some are saying he is a very smart kid, good student.

As just a fan and uneducated observer, it is hard not to be fascinated by this committment. We have known and have been after this kid for a good while. Attended several games last year, traveling from northern Kansas, to see TCU play.

When he committed Saturday, it may have been a bigger event than most realize...

What possible difference could that make. We maybe were the best team in the country last year, and most never had a big number of stars. Coaches don't even pay attention to that...

Rival's record with the stars is laughable..

Which is why I had the "eye roll" going on...

Gunner,

According to his more recent camp results on espn/insider, Tyler is being listed 6'1", 195 lbs, 4.9.

Just watching the film, no way is he taller than Dalton. Dalton was measured at the Senior Bowl at 6'2". He does have a good build though. He does appear durable.
He is a pure drop back passer with a fair amount of scrambling ability. Also, Matthews looks to be a very accurate passer. He likes to hide behind his lineman too.

He reminds me more of the Wisconsin QB we saw at the Rose Bowl. Which is not a bad thing.

How easy is it to trim off a couple tenets of a second of forty time? If he can get down to 4.7 he will go from being incredible to a level of greatness for which a word in the english language doesn't exist.

I even if he stays in the high 4's he appears to have such good instincts that he can be counted on to turn a busted play into a five yard gain much like Dalton.

Wow! Words can't describe how good he could be? We'll have to make up new words. How bout - Tylerific? Or Matthews-esque.

AD is only 6'2?? Standing next to him, he seems a lot taller. I would have guessed 6'3 - 6'4

Sometimes it is more fun to talk recruiting elsewhere. Have you heard the term nitwits?

Tyler was quoted saying he was originally tagged at 6'0 185, as a soph, by Rivals(you know about their accuracy, right?). Said he is 6'3 205 currently. Think I would trust the kid knowing his stats more than the stuff above..

It is apparent to me, that he is a real big kid in those clips..
