Non-AQ vs. AQ 2011

So, do we care after this year how the non-AQ conferences are doing against AQ competition? Or do we begin the hard-fought and well-earned process of looking down our noses at the Great Unwashed as we bear and grimace at the thought of their mere existence? Did we ever care? Will I get bored with this bit? It all remains to be seen.

Just because we are moving to the Big East does not mean your bit is done. Look at it as an opportunity to branch out. Say, compare AQ vs. AQ in non-conference. You have a year to think about it. I am sure it is only a dozen games or so...

Keep it going, Duquesne.

I still hold the opinion that locking the doors of top-tier bowl games to keep out any team only because of their conference affiliation is evil, immoral and should be illegal. I maintain no bowl game should be allowed to bind itself to more than one conference. I believe that if a playoff system is ever instituted it must not be limited by design to just certain conferences plus ND.

Keep it going, Duquesne, and keep us aware of the arrogant snobbery that contaminates college football, lest we ourselves become guilty of despising our own history.

Very telling...

Since I've been doing this, the Big 12 has never failed to have the fewest percentage of OOC games against other AQ opponents per team than any other conference. But that's obviously because they need to rest their teams for the week-in week-out grind of the rest of conference ...

I'm just going to quickly update this, because I know this week we particularly don't care, but ...

Technically, Cal plays this week at Colorado in a non-conference game. The game was on the schedule before Colorado moved to the league, and since neither was able to adequately replace the other on the schedule, it was decided the game would be played but not count in the conference standings.

I'm not sure how to handle that under the guise of my bit here ...

No offense intended, but I hope I never hear the word Non-AQ again. IMO there is currently only one Non-AQ team that should be AQ, and that is Boise but neither the PAC nor the B12 want them, so they are in Non-AQ limbo.

Otherwise I'll be celebrating the greatness of the BCS and wondering why all those Non-AQ teams don't just join an AQ conference.

When I think of the teams like Duke, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Baylor, Iowa State, that are AQ and have no business being AQ. Then I think of Boise, BYU, Fresno St, Nevada, Houston, and SMU that are non-AQ, it really makes me mad. For this reason, I will continue to root for the non-aq schools.

Any school can beat any school on any give day. For this reason aq & non-aq should be elimitated.

How are you counting Notre Dame? Thought you would have counted them as "Indies".

Since ND has special rules for access to the BCS, I've traditionally counted them as, effectively, a AQ Indy, for lack of a better term. A 2-loss ND can and has made it into BCS games. A 2 loss BYU won't. So I count them as AQ, in their own little one-team conference.

I'm really too depressed about college football to care, but I'm anal retentive enough to update ...

The MWC is having as bad a year in this metric as any year since I've been keeping track. Looking for a halfway positive spin, note that the non-AQs are 8-11 at home against AQ's, a fairly respectable .421 winning rate. They're 6-57 away from home, a .095 winning rate ...
