Yeah not my choice to fly day off. I wanted to fly the day before but my BIL couldn’t get here before that.

I always try to fly into important events 2 days before them, especially in winter. Saved us this summer when a flight cancelation pushed our arrival to a wedding back but we were able to make all the events. Flying in the day of you are just playing russian roulette. Compensation is nice, but the memories are gone. If someone can't leave when I want/need to, they can just meet me there.

Good Luck with American. You might get something more just because they want to steal business from Southwest.

Sat next to a gentleman at game who had two seats but one was empty. Said his son’s flight from Austin had been cancelled. Must’ve been same flight. He was devastated. We felt horrible for him.

Yes that was my Son—same thing happened to him. I flew out of DFW so I made it but he didn’t.

On the other hand, when I travel for business I almost always travel day-of in part because I don’t want to get on a company audit list and if I get delayed…I get delayed.

If the flight to Phoenix had been cancelled you'd be more likely to get some compensation. If the flight is delayed, not so much. They'll say "The flight made it to Phoenix". It's still worth it to call/email AA customer service and state your case calmly. Do not get upset, that will not help you at all. And if you're not happy with the outcome the first time, try again.

Steel flew day of, and flew out next morning.
