Considering the caliber of starting pitching No. 8 TCU will bring into this weekend’s series with Texas Tech, Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to UNLV is not the way to go into a big non-conference series.

Rebels right-hander Scott Dysinger, who had a 54.00 ERA in just one-third inning of work going into his first career start, baffled the Red Raider bats to the tune of five innings of no-hit pitching, and UNLV got all the runs it would need with a four-run third to earn a split of the two-game midweek series at Dan Law Field.

“We needed to have a couple more good (at-bats), but give UNLV’s guy credit, he competed and threw strikes for the most part,” head coach Dan Spencer said. “It took us awhile to adjust, and that’s surprising because it usually doesn’t take us that long. He threw a lot of fastballs up in the zone and we couldn’t stay off of them, and hit a lot of lazy fly balls. We either couldn’t get on top of it or take it for a ball.” ...
