ICYMI: Dykes being escorted from the field after ejection

I say this not to troll but my honest assessment of Dykes at SMU was that he didn't really "do" much as a HC. At practices he was always chatting it up with reporters, donors or former players and let his assistants do all of the work. I don't ever recall seeing him take a player aside and to discuss fundamentals and what not. I was told that he was also very hands-off in recruiting other than the obligatory Friday helicopter rides and closing sales pitches on visits.

I think he is always going to be as good as the staff around him. Now that's probably true of most coaches but I think it's especially true for Sonny. The offense was always clicking with Lashlee and later Riley as OC. The defense was good under Kevin Kane and then when he left and was replaced with a bad hire (Jim Leavitt) it all went to crap. I think he's a "good guy" who people enjoy working for and he fancies himself as a CEO-type who acts as the face of the program and delegates all of the grunt work to his assistants.

He's been doing the scream-at-the-refs bit when things aren't going well since at least 2018. It wears quite thin.

I think this is accurate. It’s neither good or bad, but he does need a good staff around him, as do most coaches.

Looked Trumpy walking off, fist pumping. Not a good look for the football coach.
It is a great look to me! I absolutely loved it! I really don’t care if it looked a bit Trumpy. Unlike some coaches, he at least has passion for the team and the fans. He appreciated and acknowledged the fans that were chanting “Sonny” after the ejection. This is refreshing when compared to how Gary always complaining about attendance even when the team was bad.

I see him doing a bunch of talking but I can’t read lips so I’ll stick with I don’t know. I do know that if we have officials who come into games pissed off about the last time they officiated a TCU game, that’s completely unprofessional. Pissant officials who say we’re only human shouldn’t be doing this. I am absolutely not on the officials are always right train.
I never said anything about pissant officials but they are humans who see the same things that we do watching bad football yet the HC is screaming at you all game even for decisions HE made makes it's frustrating. They get graded pretty harshly so it doesn't affect their calls I wouldn't imagine and I agree the officials aren't always right. I hate Texas but being on the sidelines I'm really impressed with how Sark works the officials vs how Sonny does it. Neal Brown is great also. Gundy as well when he's not standing 40 yards from everyone listening to Classic Rock or whatever he's listening to

Well that's one take. I'd prefer him prepare his team to play in such a way that we look well coached, disciplined, tough, resilient even if we lose. THATS the passion I wanna see. Starting a BIG Junk argument halfway thru a game and getting to go get in the AC while your kids are out there struggling without you is selfish and cowardice in my take

I truly cannot believe he got himself thrown out. They should have made him sit in the stands with the rest of us fans who were frying.
Sooo much THIS!! Boitmans crew shud have used the 2nd UNS and assessed to the bench just to make sure Sonny had to stand out there in pain with everyone else

We were getting hosed, that's for sure. THey were holding like a fiend with a meth dose. But it usually takes a whole hell of a lot for a ref to eject a coach. It usually involves a word.

If the calls was correct and the refs were consistent in the calls, he would look stupid arguing with refs.

I’ll just say in 30+ years of following TCU and football and men’s basketball that the best coaches do not put up with lousy officiating. In fact, two of the top three coaches have been ejected from a game (Tubbs and Dixon) On the other hand, the coaches that just sat there and had very little emotion were usually the ones that had the least success (Sullivan, Dougherty, Johnson).

Basketball coaches behavior vs Football coaches is an apples and oranges comparison, only similarity is they are both fruit. You flat out cannotallow yourself to get thrown out of a game in football nor can a coach at TCU get such a poor reputation in how he handles things that hes cross with officials. When your team is playing like ass usually on a weekly basis noone wants to deal with your boorish behavior on the dang refs
