How ‘Bout Them Ponies?!?!?

Admittedly I haven’t watched them more than a few minutes this year. But what a year those dudes are having. ACC championship game. Strong chance at qualifying for the playoff tournament. My how things change.

I’m torn. Very similar situation to Texas. I hate to see them win. But the Texan in me likes seeing all these Texas schools on top of the various leagues. Here’s to our Frogs completing some kind of miracle turnaround to the season and getting things back on track.

Anybody watched SMU enough to have an opinion about whether they are as good as they appear by their record?

They’ve been consistently good this year, I’m in the same boat about being torn. I think they can win the ACC championship and make the playoffs but don’t see them making semifinals.

They kind of had a bottom feeder schedule in conference play. They missed both Miami and Clemson. They struggle on the road but have found a way to win the close games, with the exception of the BYU game.

0 wins over ranked teams... they got dealt an extremely favorable ACC schedule. Also needed the Duke kicker to Brotzman twice to beat them

SMU has benefited from an unusually weak ACC this year. If the Arkansas job opens up, SMU coach is gone.
Fingers crossed. And they have, but you've still got to win the games. Big XII is weak, too, and look what we did ... Came out of fall camp in September committing penalties and turnovers like our guys had all just gone out for football for the first time ever, gave up so many points to SMU they nearly ran out of scoreboard, wet the bed against UCF and Houston teams that won't make bowls... Mid-season improvement and possible 8-4 finish notwithstanding, the first half of this season was a disgrace. SMU struggled for two weeks, got into mid-season form by the time TCU came to town and haven't looked back. They're a well coached outfit and a good team. The best one on our schedule.

Too bad we're too chicken $&+! to continue playing them.

That definitely needs to be remedied ASAP.

I watched most of their games with Louisville and BC & Virgina. Watched the entire game with Pitt. They have two smaller skill guys former WR Brashard Smith who is now a RB. The other RB Jaylen Knighton is serviceable, but Smith is a gamebreaker. WR i think Jake Bailey? is squirrel quick. on smaller side but wirey and has great hops. Former TCU WR Jordan Hudson starting to come around. When they replaced QB Preston Stone with Kevin Jennings that's when things took off (against TCU). He is really not far off from T. Boykin.
On Defense, they have one big A run stuffer who is got to be at least 6't3 340 Lbs. The common denominator on their DL is all of them have large wing spans. Their LB's consistently fill the run lanes. There are some serious ball hawks in the secondary. I think it will be interesting if they face Miami in the ACC championship as they have 5-6 transfers from there. They will beat Miami or Clemson.

They curbstomped TCU, so not going to be dissing their success. TCU got a pretty' easy' Big 12 schedule also, no K.State, no Colorado, no Iowa State, no Az. State. SMEW has perhaps taken advantage of their scheduling. Frogs, not so much.

There is only one program that is still undefeated. Oregon is 11-0, and likely to go 12-0. It makes me appreciate our 12-0 season even more knowing just how incredible an accomplishment it is to run the table no matter the conference. Clearly not an easy feat. I hope we do it again next season ;)

SMU has had a truly magical season, and has benefited by an easier ACC schedule. They will get their chance to go up against Miami (I am assuming it will be Miami) in their CCG. If they win that game, who knows where their ceiling lies.
