Big 12 football media days: Sonny Dykes says TCU QB Josh Hoover can be among league's elite
Story by Joseph Duarte, Staff writerLAS VEGAS — TCU coach Sonny Dykes expects Josh Hoover to make significant progress in his second season at quarterback.
“Really fired up,” Dykes said during Tuesday’s Big 12 media days at Allegiant Stadium. “I think Josh has an opportunity to be one of the elite quarterbacks in the league this season. Expect him to play at a high level.”
Hoover showed potential as a redshirt freshman last season, throwing for 2,206 yards and 15 touchdowns in six starts, after replacing injured starter Chandler Morris. With Morris’ transfer to North Texas in the offseason, Hoover is considered the frontrunner for the Horned Frogs’ starting quarterback job in a room that includes transfer Ken Seals, who made 16 starts at Vanderbilt, and Hauss Hejny, a four-star signee from Aledo.
