GoFrogs: Women's Tennis Outlasted in Stillwater

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – In a close battle on the road, the TCU women’s tennis team came up just short to No. 11 Oklahoma State as the Cowgirls took the 4-3 victory on Friday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.

The Horned Frogs (9-12, 0-6 Big 12) kept up with the Cowgirls (16-2, 5-1 Big 12) in doubles action with TCU striking first with a 6-2 victory from Aleksa Cveticanin and Aleksandra Zenovka on court three. The lead by Oklahoma State on the final two courts proved to be too much as they were able to score the wins and take the early 1-0 lead.

Alexis Pereira was able to even up the battle in singles action with the senior picking up the 6-0, 6-0 win at the bottom of the lineup. Oklahoma State was able to take the lead back with straight-set wins on courts three and one, but TCU did not give up. Marie Norrispicked up a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four before Stevie Kennedy recorded a 7-5, 6-3 win on court five to tie up the match at 3-3. A three-set battle on court two would determine the match with Oklahoma State holding too big of a lead in the final set for TCU to overcome as the Cowgirls took the match, 4-3.

Quote from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“I am very proud of this team. If we can keep learning and growing all the way until the very end of the season we are going to break through and get a result the girls are proud of. This feels like the 50th close match loss, but it is not that bad and we are not that far away. We are very close. Each player has contributed at times and each player has lost for us at times. We are all in this together. We have to keep enduring and persevering. These types of seasons really produce character growth and we will remain hopeful that good things are coming for this team very soon. In my opinion, Marie Norris had two of her biggest wins today and last Sunday. It is so nice to see her healthy and playing at a solid level again. She started the season out terrific, hit a speed bump or two, learned from it and has bounced back beautifully. I am very happy for her. It is now time to get to Norman and prepare for Oklahoma.”
