Provo, Utah – The TCU women's tennis team moved to 6-4 in conference play after falling short to No. 51 BYU 4-3 on Saturday evening in Provo, Utah.
LEE'S THOUGHTS
"Another battle for the team and a great college tennis match," head coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "Of course it hurts when we come up short again in a 4-3 match. But There were a lot of positives from today- including Isa and Destinee going perfect on the weekend in singles, and Raquel fighting back and having a dominant performance."
"We knew Texas Tech and BYU were good at doubles, but I expected us to do better there. That's been a consistent point for us all season and it really hurt us this weekend. We are going to spend a lot of time there this week in preparation for SMU and Baylor. The team is unified and having the necessary conversations to take ownership, improve and use all of these experiences to their advantage for upcoming matches. I'm proud of their maturity in that regard."
THE RUNDOWN
The match began in doubles play where the Cougars claimed the point from courts one and two.
In singles, Jade Otway fell to No. 87 Bobo Huang in straight sets to move the match to 2-0, BYU. Isabel Pascual earned the first point of the day for the Frogs and her second singles win of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court three.
Destinee Martins played a strong match on court two to take down her opponent in two sets earning her ninth win of the season. The Cougars earned another win on court four to move the match to 3-2. Raquel Caballero Chica battled on court five to take down her opponent in three sets. The freshman fell 6-2 in the first set before coming back to win two sets back-to-back 6-2, 6-1 and tie up the match.
It all came down to court six where Helena Narmont fought to bring home the win. The junior fell short losing 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
