GoFrogs: TCU Drops Away Match in Oklahoma

Norman, Oklahoma:
TCU women's tennis dropped their second Big 12 match of the season on Sunday against Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis center in Norman, 0-4.

The Frogs (7-4) are now 0-2 in conference play this season and the Sooners (13-6) improve to their conference record to 3-1.

Four singles matches extended to three sets as the Frogs battled to keep the score close. Needing a late rally, TCU came up just short at the match's end.

In doubles, No. 43 Yu Chin Tsai and Helena Narmont fell to Oklahoma's No. 32 ranked doubles team Ivana and Carmen Corley (6-3). Mercedes Aristegui and Jade Otway fell to the eighth ranked ITA doubles team in a close 6-4 battle.

With Oklahoma taking a 1-0 early lead, the Horned Frogs needed to rally from behind. In her second straight match on court No. 3, Martins dropped her match to Emma Staker who is currently ranked No. 97 in the country (6-1, 6-1). The Sooners' Romana Cisovska prevailed over the sophomore Helena Narmont (6-0, 7-5) giving Oklahoma a 3-0 lead.

TCU fought all afternoon stretching the match out to three sets on singles courts 1, 2, 4 and 5. Ultimately, transfer senior Tiphanie Lemaitre lost to OU's Layne Sleeth (3-6, 6-1, 6-4).

Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker on the Weekend:
"This weekend we grew together as a team and learned some things we can apply to take it up another level before next weekends matches. We came out in both doubles matches with commanding leads, which was positive. Being up 4-1 and 5-1 on 2 of the 3 courts against both OSU and OU lets us know we have the ability to really set the tone with positive aggressive doubles fundamentals. However, we lost our leads because we tried to maintained our level instead of elevating and evolving our game. Credit to opponents for never giving up and scrapping back for what turned out to be huge doubles points in both matches. We will work on these things and I'm confident we will grab the doubles point this coming weekend."

"In singles against OSU the doubles point really deflated us and I don't think we ever got going. But against OU I really saw our players rally together and fight with some real toughness and grit. It was very encouraging to see our last 4 players stay in the fight and never give up although we trailed 0-3. Our belief level the last hour of the match reached a new level and we are going to be tough to beat the rest of the season regardless of who we play if we can start with that type of conviction. Can't wait to have our 5-match home stand these next 2 weekends. We are going to create a fun atmosphere for fans of all ages and look forward to some great crowds."
